Can’t Get Phone Service
Careful when reassembling the iPhone after the battery replacement. If you can’t get phone service check connector #5 on the system board. This connector and electronics is dedicated to the iPhone’s radio and antenna. The iPhone will remain in the mode searching… if this connector is loose.

Battery Replacement Completed – But New Battery Still Draining Fast
There is a known motherboard, battery drawdown issue with both the iPhone 3G and 3Gs. This problem causes the battery to drain fast even in standby mode overnight. Battery replacement will not fix this particual issue and if you move the motherboard to a different iPhone the problem follows the motherboard. There are 2 ways to deterine if you are experinecing this problem.
- Replace the battery with a new one and see if both the old and new batteries behave the same way (battery drains quickly)
- Determine if your iPhone loses a large amount of change in standby mode (overnight)
              Note: You should only lose between 5 - 10% battery capacity in a 10 hour period during standby
These 2 items will tell you if you have a motherboard battery draw issue. There is no easy repair option short of replacement of the motherboard or the power regulator chip on the board. The capacity drawdown in standby mode is the biggest symptom of this power issue.

iPhone Rebooting at Apple Icon
There’s a small chance after you perform an iPhone battery replacement on the 3G or 3Gs the iPhone will continuously reboot. The reboot occurs at the Apple icon or symbol so it never completely displays the unlock option screen. The frequency of this issue is less than 5% after the battery replacement. Reloading the iOS and replacing the system board does not resolve the issue.
The cause of this issue is a defective or broken proximity sensor which is located in the LCD glass touch screen. Disconnect the proximity sensor which is connector #3 on the system board and see if the iPhone will boot correctly. If it does, than replace the proximity sensor.
